A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of seeing and shooting my dear friend Matt Hopper (and the Roman Candles) at the Gypsy Lounge. It was the first time I’ve seen him perform with a band and to about 10 people in a bar. But hey, who doesn’t like intimate shows right!? Regardless, it was great quality time with my friend and good music. The opening band was The Devil Whale..who are incredible..i think anyways, and the closing band who I’ve heard of but never actually heard the music..Venus Infers. They were very enjoyable as well.

A couple weeks ago I got the great pleasure of staying with my dear friends, Alex and Jackie in their small town of Slo. Friday, we hung out in downtown, which is kind of like a really unpopulated downtown San Diego..but not really. They took me to this pretty cool bar called Spikes, where we ate and watched the angels game…well mostly Alex and I watched while Jackie looked at us strangely. The next day Alex and I drove to Santa Barbara and hung around Samy’s for like forever. This is where Alex dropped some serious cash. Sunday we went to some sort of forest/beach and took some cool photos of Jackie..what a trooper. And lastly Monday, I finally got to spend time with my lovely friend Evan. I wish I had more time to take some photos of him, but for now..this is the beach path and Jackie.

I’ve seen The Faint play a number of times in different places, and its always a fun time to be had, especially in San Diego. Jen, Christy, Lisa and I saw them last year. We got a hotel room at some old rickety hotel, randomly saw some douche bag bros from high school who kept calling us to party till like 3am. Sorry losers..we have better things to do. Anyhow, this time we checked into the W hotel (which was the cheapest in the area..so why not). The rooms were amazing but the pool sucked.

The show was really good. The set list was a good mix of older, old, new and newer. I really like the new stuff they played. We met this nice man who was standing by us, who soon became our friend and put up with our shenanigans. He’s really cool.
After the show, we headed to the Casbah, a venue/bar where The Faint were spinning after hours. It’s a pretty cool place. While outside talking, having a good time, some guys from the band totally wanted in on our conversation. They really wanted to be friends with us.. of course, it was bound to happen.
All in all a really fun night. Totally falls in the top 3 best nights ever in 2008, right after seeing Flight of the Conchords and Ricky Gervais
Last Friday Night I met up with some friends in Santa Ana for a bike art show. The art was alright. There was a bunch of people there with their bikes. It’s pretty amazing how much work (and money!) these people put into these bikes. It makes me really excited to start my new photo project.
so i pretty much love soccer. as im sitting here watching the Euros i cant help but think why this sport is so amazing. the actual game is a given right?! but seriously, the photos taken during the games and the commericals, may be my second favorite part.
thank you sports photographers for taking some really amazing photos.
