So I know I’m about a week behind, but I just watched the opening ceremony for the Olympics and let me just tell you, it was absolutely incredible. So beautiful, even mind blowing. Good luck topping this one next country who host 2012. Truly a piece of art.gorgeous.  I love the summer Olympics.

Elegantly posed to death

I’ve seen The Faint play a number of times in different places, and its always a fun time to be had, especially in San Diego. Jen, Christy, Lisa and I saw them last year. We got a hotel room at some old rickety hotel, randomly saw some douche bag bros from high school who kept calling us to party till like 3am. Sorry losers..we have better things to do. Anyhow, this time we checked into the W hotel (which was the cheapest in the area..so why not). The rooms were amazing but the pool sucked.

The show was really good. The set list was a good mix of older, old, new and newer. I really like the new stuff they played. We met this nice man who was standing by us, who soon became our friend and put up with our shenanigans. He’s really cool. After the show, we headed to the Casbah, a venue/bar where The Faint were spinning after hours. It’s a pretty cool place. While outside talking, having a good time, some guys from the band totally wanted in on our conversation. They really wanted to be friends with us.. of course, it was bound to happen.

All in all a really fun night. Totally falls in the top 3 best nights ever in 2008, right after seeing Flight of the Conchords and Ricky Gervais

Summerland…

So last weekend Alex, Noelle, and I drove up to this place Alex found awhile back. I’ve been there before to shoot some photos with Alex and it’s pretty rad.  While there, a drunk couple were fighting above where we were shooting.. oblivious to us below. Noelle and Alex thought they’d see us..come down and kill us. I should really start carrying my machete everywhere I go.

Bike Night….

August 7, 2008 by keleighlayton

Last Friday Night I met up with some friends in Santa Ana for a bike art show. The art was alright. There was a bunch of people there with their bikes. It’s pretty amazing how much work (and money!) these people put into these bikes. It makes me really excited to start my new photo project.

anywho..here are a few pictures from the night.

Thursday Photoshoot Day

This week, Noelle and I headed down to Balboa’s fun zone. Too bad for us, we ending up on the wrong side of the island. Nonetheless we made do with what we were given.

I wish Wednesday

I wish I took rad photos like Cass Bird.

She is an amazing photographer. Such great use of available light, point of view, and subjects. I love her use of gender ambiguity in her photo essays. She also photographs for urban outfitters catalogs (which I love). Totally my favorite photographer this month.

Nowhere California

After years of seeing photos of Salvation Mountain, I finally got the chance to go see it. It’s like 2.5 hours away and is the longest, saddest, second creepiest drive I’ve made. I didn’t even realize it was featured in “Into the Wild”…an amazing movie. It’s said that  Salvation Mountain is the second most visited tourist attraction in Imperial County. This makes me wonder….what’s the first?!?!??! There is nothing..and i mean nothing out there expect dirt, dead shrubbery, an occasional area of greenery, which seems way outta the norm, and busted up buildings. We (Alex and I) didn’t get the chance to meet the creator, Leonard Knight, he was sleeping…or dead, but hopefully sleeping, regardless, we didn’t want to bother him. Maybe next time….

Somewhere California

This past weekend, I got suckered into going to San Luis Obispo with Alex. I helped her shoot a wedding  out in Pismo Beach. The couple was pretty rad (photos coming..ehh, soonish). On the way back home, we stopped off at this really cool old chicken diner. Not more than a minute of being there..some old foreign guy pulls up, mumbling to us to get off the land…mind you he spotted us on his telescope. weird. Anyways here are some photos.
